Abstract
A clavicle fracture is a relatively common injury that occurs in any age. It occurs in 0.2%~4.4% of newborns.
Newborn clavicle fractures require no or little intervention except re-examinations and repeated
radiographies. Our case involves a brachial plexus injury after applying a figure-of-eight bandage for a
clavicle fracture of an infant. A 15-day-old male baby was referred to our department for the left arm
weakness and the left axillar skin necrosis caused by a figure-of-eight bandage, which was applied for his
clavicle fracture. The fifteen days after applying the figure-of-eight bandage, the electrodiagnostic study
showed a brachial plexopathy. The brachial plexus was compressed by the figure-of-eight bandage. We
report a case of a brachial plexus injury due to compression of the nerves from applying the figure-ofeight
bandage for the displaced mid-shaft clavicle fracture in a neonate.
